She is always singing softly.
when I listen
mountain lion stalks valley
pelicans move through fog.
there is something falling.
raindrop hits leaf then.
sudden dance.
she sings softly
at countertop. sink. hallway
to her valley singing.
to her ghost.
to her fox running across ice.
03. I have been waiting
and now
woodpecker. pileated.
calls loudly.
he is looking around with his red
head. observing. his neck
stretches into unbelievable angles.
he hits bark. his tongue
curls around back of his precious brain.
protecting him from impact.
I look down and
he has disappeared.
I live three lives. one is my own—
soft. fluttering. asleep.
